Stoppmenneskehandel.no (Stop people trafficking)
In February 2003, the government under the auspices of the justice ministry launched Norway’s first action plan against trafficking in women and children.
Based on experiences of measures in the last action plan, seven government departments launched a new action plan for 2005-2008 on 23.06.05. The Ministry for Children and Equality’s campaign against people trafficking are one of the measures in this action plan. With the headline ”Buying sex can be dealing in the slave trade– Do you buy sex” the intention is to communicate with potential buyers of sexual services and to point out the connection between buying sex and people trafficking. We think that knowledge of this connection will limit the demand and reduce the number of prostitutes. Thus it will be more difficult for people traffickers to run their illegal trade.
The Stop Human Trafficking campaign “Stoppmenneskehandel” runs over three years up to 2009.
