Facts about age

Young employees are over-represented in business in terms of bad working conditions and working environment, temporary contracts and deficient supervision.

Complaints to LDO show that age discrimination occurs particularly in connection with recruitment and advertising of positions, but also when older employees feel that are being forced out with downsizing and re-organizations.

18 per cent of all those in employment in 2007 were 55 years old or older.

Leaving employment between the ages of 55-60 years is 9 per cent higher in industry than in other businesses.

Three out of four employees over 60 years would like to work after they have reached pension age.
