Gender

Every year the biggest cause of complaints to LDO is about discrimination on the basis of gender. Most of these complaints relate to the workplace.

In Norway women still get paid less than men for work of equal value. On average women earn only 85 per cent of men’s wages. Many women are subjected to discrimination at work when they get pregnant. Most often it is women who work part-time and women who are in receipt of state pensions.

However, men also experience unreasonable discrimination on the basis of gender, especially with regard to parental leave. Transsexuals also experience discrimination due to gender.
