Monitoring compliance with conventions
The UN’s human rights system defines a number of standards for work on combating discrimination and promoting equality. Equality and Anti-discrimination ombud (LDO) monitors that the authorities implement the provisions of the UN conventions.
Individuals, organisations and other representatives of civil society can hold their authorities accountable for achieving the goal of equality. Among other things, the Norwegian authorities are obliged to respect, safeguard and promote rights conferred by the United Nations International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and the United Nations International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
Through its role as an independent monitoring body, the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Ombud shall help to make the conventions available and monitor that the authorities implement the provisions of the conventions effectively.
