Rejection

The Equality and Anti-Discrimination Ombud cannot handle complaints that fall outside the legal regulations the Ombud was set up to enforce. For instance, the Ombud cannot make a statement about circumstances related to age discrimination if the incident has taken place outside of the workplace. If the conditions being complained about fall outside the Ombud’s mandate, the Ombud is obliged to reject the case. The Ombud must also reject a case if it is brought before or decided by a court.

A rejection from the Ombud can be appealed to the Equality and Anti-discrimination Tribunal.

In many cases, the Ombud will still be able to give you guidance with regard to the problem you raise.
