Nordic Models for Gender Equality

Equality ombud institutions and commissions play a crucial role in the work
against gender-based discrimination and in promoting equal rights. The
independent character of these institutions, their close interactions with
citizens and their role as a guardian of the protection against discrimination
and promotion of equality are important elements in the work to achieve
more equal societies.

The Equality ombuds from Sweden and Norway and the Gender Equality
Commission from the Faroe Islands will discuss their role in the gender
equality structure and specific strategies to achieve gender equality. A precondition
for this work is collaboration with other stake holders. Together with
representatives from the Norwegian Sami parliament, the Swedish Women’s
Lobby and the Norwegian Women’s Lobby, they will discuss how to ensure
meaningful collaboration to promote equality and combat discrimination.
